UCAS points calculator FAQs
What are UCAS Tariff points?
UCAS Tariff points turn your post-16 grades into one number. Each qualification and grade has a fixed value, so an A* at A level is worth 56 points and an A is worth 48. Universities and colleges can use the total to set entry requirements and to compare different qualifications. Read the full guide: UCAS Tariff points explained.
How many UCAS points is an A level worth?
An A level is worth from 16 points for an E up to 56 points for an A*. Three A levels at AAB add up to 136 points.
Do GCSEs count for UCAS points?
No. GCSEs are Level 2 qualifications, so they carry no UCAS Tariff points. Universities may still ask for certain GCSE grades, such as English and maths, as part of their entry requirements. See how to get UCAS points.
Does the EPQ give UCAS points?
Yes. The Extended Project Qualification is worth up to 28 points for an A*. That is half the points of an A level at the same grade.
Do all universities use UCAS points?
No. Many universities make offers in grades, such as AAB, rather than in points, and some courses use both. Always check the entry requirements on the course page. How many UCAS points do I need?
Have IB points changed for 2027 entry?
Yes. In the UCAS Tariff tables for the 2027 cycle, IB Higher Level and Standard Level grades 1 to 5 are worth more than before, and Higher Level grades 1 and 2 now earn points too. For example, a Higher Level grade 5 is now worth 40 points. Grades 6 and 7 have not changed.
My qualification is not in the calculator. What can I do?
Check the exact name on your results or ask your school or college. You can then look it up in the full list on the official UCAS Tariff page.
Can I share my result?
Yes. Copy link saves your grades in the web address, so a teacher or parent sees the same result. We do not store your grades anywhere.
